Dr. Opitz graduated from Loyola University of Chicago and earned his doctorate of optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry. He completed a post-graduate residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Hampton, VA. In addition to caring for patients at the Norwood Park Eye Center, he holds the rank of Associate Professor at the Illinois College of Optometry, providing clinical and didactic education to future optometrists. Dr. Opitz lectures frequently for continuing education programs both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Opitz is an accomplished researcher and has had many publications highlighting his contributions to the profession of optometry and eye care. He is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society.
Known to his friends and family as Nick, he was born in Chicago’s Norwood Park. He and his wife, Sarah, live in Norwood Park with their three children in the same house he lived in as a small child. Nick is a Chicago sports enthusiast and a die-hard Cub and Bears fan. He enjoys family time with his kids, golfing and biking.
Due to the growth of Norwood Park Eye Center, the demands of practice ownership, faculty responsibilities at the Illinois College of Optometry and family life, Dr. Opitz transferred ownership of Norwood Park Eye Center to Dr. Ruchi Shah earlier this year.
